  7. Quick checklist

A laptop is a big purchase, and the spec sheets are confusing. The good news: you only need to understand five things to make a smart choice.

1. Processor

For office work, online classes and browsing, an Intel Core i3 (12th gen or newer) or AMD Ryzen 3 is enough. For coding, light photo editing or heavy multitasking, go for a Core i5 or Ryzen 5. Only video editors and gamers need a Core i7 / Ryzen 7.

2. RAM

8GB is the minimum in 2026. 16GB keeps Chrome with many tabs, Teams and Excel running smoothly together. Check if the RAM can be upgraded later.

3. Storage

Always choose an SSD - it makes the laptop start in seconds. 512GB is the sweet spot for most buyers.

4. Screen

A 15.6-inch Full HD (1920x1080) IPS screen is comfortable for long hours. Avoid HD (1366x768) panels: text looks blurry.

5. Battery and weight

Students who carry their laptop all day should look for 1.5kg or less and at least 6 hours of real battery life.

Quick checklist

  • SSD, not hard disk
  • At least 8GB RAM (16GB preferred)
  • Full HD IPS display
  • Windows 11 and MS Office included (check the listing)
  • 1 year or longer warranty

Tip: laptop prices fall the most during festival sales. Add the product to your list and check the price history before buying.
